Good read. Mimics my thoughts on the Beard hire. Remember watching a Gonzaga/BYU game with my buddy who went to GU and saying 'this is why you like CBB so much' because it looked like a different sport than the 2016 Texas/KU game we had just attended.

Also, I've taken your advice and filled up my Saturday schedules to avoid caring about the football team. We'll see how long that takes.

"They’re going to be heavily favored in nearly every non-conference game" - an impressive display of back-handed compliment.

I'm curious as to why Beard runs the motion offense that he does. With a defensive-oriented coach, as Beard seems to be, does the motion offense help protect or enhance the defense (like by helping avoid transition baskets or something)?

Of course, even if Beard has reasons for the motion offense, he could still be wrong to run it (see, e.g., all the football coaches that resisted the spread for years).

I think it's because it is what he knows, having spent a large chunk of his assistant years under Bobby Knight. He has only really deviated from it when an assistant has nudged him to try something different, and even then it was really just adding a bit around the edges to what was largely a motion system.

Thanks for ending the drought!

I think a team of excellent passers can overcome a "cramped" motion offense, but I am not suggesting it is this team. From a couple of games watched I think Allen and Carr together add more passing skill than the loss from the departed Matt. I just don't think it that will be enough on floor magic to make the previously standard Beard offense look un-constipated. Is there anyone under Beard who will voice the potential of this unit for fast break basketball?

Disu's health may prove a key to success in conference. He seems to me to be the most significant single weapon on offense. YMMV.

Most of this staff seems designed to recruit more than innovate on offense; maybe Rodney Terry can nudge Beard away from straight motion, he got Julien Lewis to hit 40%+ from three so it's possible he's the Rasputin behind Emperor Beard. We'll see eventually.

I guess I'm not as concerned with how the games look as most of you. After all, it's impossible for me to watch any of them anyway, so the end result is all that concerns me. Well, at least until March when I can pay to get the games up here in the Frozen North.

I do feel your pain however.
